The Doha Manuscript. In 1998 a hitherto unknown early copy of al-Sufi's star atlas, dated 519AH [1125 CE], was auctioned in London by Sothebys. It was acquired by Sheikh Saudal-Thani of Qatar and is currently on display in the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, MS.2.1998.
Copied by ‘Alī ibn ‘Abd al-Jalīl ibn ‘Alī ibn Muḥammad from a 1036 AD manuscript copied by Hibatallāh ibn Bishr al-Sham‘ī, which in turn was copied from a manuscript of al-Ṣūfī’s assistant Faraj ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Habashī; the sections on Cygnus, Cassiopeia, Perseus, Aries and Taurus are replacements from the Ottoman period; King et al (1998); Turkmani (2012) 67 & 72-73; Savage-Smith (2013).
