Roman scale armour. Scales perhaps 1/2mm thick, the visible part of each scale is approx 20mm long  x 10mm wide.

X-Ray of a Late Roman scale aventail, found in the UK.

Scale armour discovered at a building site in Zeugma, in what is now Turkey. Probably Byzantine. The damage is from an earthmoving vehicle.
