70 Colossal stone statue of the Sassanian king. Shapur II, which lies fallen from its base in the cave where it was originally set up. The importance which the Sassanians attached to details of costume and insignia of office is clearly apparent, but the face shows far more regard for psychological likeness than was usual in royal portraits of this type.
