This painting depicts the Mughal emperor Akbar (r.1556–1605) and a delegation from Khan Kilan, the governor of Nagor (Nagaur) in north-west India.
Akbar is shown on horseback in the centre of the image, facing the delegation. V&A Museaum.
The contemporary Persian inscription beneath the painting notes that the faces were done by Basawan, one of the greatest artists at the Mughal court.
