Folio 15. Men and women watch a physician preparing medicines, in a manuscript made in northern Iraq at the end of the 12th century. Islamic medicine and surgery techniques were, of course, far in advance of those of Christian Western Europe. This manuscript also includes numerous views of everyday life, such as the women's and children's costumes, the half starved beggar and the special form of oven seen here.
