FRANKISH KNIGHT c. 1150

An extract from Armies and Enemies of the Crusades 1096-1291
by Ian Heath

[Perhaps based on the Codex Calixtinus (Liber Sancti Jacobi), 1135-1139AD]

4.      FRANKISH KNIGHT c. 1150

This figure is very little different from the last, though in accordance with prevailing fashion his tunic, as well as his hauberk, is somewhat longer. The hauberk now has wrist-length sleeves which became standard in the course of the 12th century. The cross is again in evidence on his helmet.

Lighter forms of armour such as this would have remained in use amongst sergeants for much of this era.
