Markušovce is a village and municipality in the Spišská Nová Ves District in the Košice Region of central-eastern Slovakia.

Štefan Mariáši (1463 – 1516), kapitán Spišského hradu, ako verný služobník Jána Zápoľského nahromadil počas svojho života značný majetok.
Stephen Mariasi (1463 – 1516), captain of Spis Castle, as a faithful servant of John Zapolsky amassed during his lifetime considerable property.

John Zápolya (Slovak: Ján Zápoľský) (2 February 1487 – 22 July 1540) was King of Hungary (as John I) from 1526 to 1540. His rule was disputed by Archduke Ferdinand I, who also claimed the title King of Hungary. He was Voivode of Transylvania from 1511. He was born in 1487 at his family's Szepes Castle in Upper Hungary (now known as Spiš Castle in Slovakia).
