A NISHAPUR POTTERY BOWL
North East Iran, 10th century
Of hemispherical form on short foot, the interior painted under the glaze in green, yellow and brown with the central figure of a warrior on a horse, his vanquished enemy on the ground beneath him, with animals and birds in the background and with three partial kufic inscriptions, the exterior with simple leaf-pattern, repaired clean breaks, some areas of restoration.
