This illustration from Walters manuscript W.624 depicts one of the many battles fought by Alexander the Great, who is celebrated in the Islamic tradition as one of the great historic rulers. Unusually, one of the armoured cavalry has a musket. The painting is inscribed Jagannath in red ink.
