The Mir-i alem carried the Sultan's flag. The Kapıcılar Kethüdası (steward of the gatekeepers) was in charge of the Bab-ı Hümayun and Bab-ı's Selam (gates), he served standing in the Divan-ı Hümayun meetings. He established the connection between the Sultan and the Grand Vizier, to punish the criminals related to politics, and to collect the petitions of the people when the Sultan went out on the occasion of Friday and Eid prayers.
