Stool bearer to the Sultan (in charge of guarding and carrying the Sultan's riding stool).
IT is the business of this officer constantly to attend the Sultan, when he gets on horseback, and to assist him in mounting, which he does by means of the low stool, which is carried for that purpose. Indeed so much state and pomp always attend his actions, that he never appears, unless in disguise, without being surrounded with attendants, whose business extends to most minute ceremonies.
