Detail of miniature from the Compendium of Chronicles by Rashid al-Din. Shows several figures on horseback engaged in conflict and is said to portray the conquest of India (Narin) by Mahmud ibn Sebuktegin, ruler of the Ghaznavid Dynasty of Eastern Afghanistan from 998-1030CE. Sebuktegin is most likely to be represented by the figure on the left, which is striking the opposing leader's head with a blow from his mace.
